Vastu is architecture and much more. Architecture is a science, art or profession of designing & constructing buildings etc., the definition of Vastu extends into realm of occultism.
Vastu Shastra is a science which tells us how to build a house so as to happy & prosperous. Architecture was a highly developed knowledge in ancient India.
The Mahabharata tells of Mayasabha, the architectural marvel that stunned Duryodhana, the king of kings. The ancient architectural style & principles are slowly disappearing yielding place to modern. , except the temples of complexes. The temple complexes continue to be built in the form of Vastu Purushalying on his back. The Sanctum Sanctorum lies right below the dome (Gopuram). The gopuram has his own significance Dome of templates are mechanical device to harness to spiritual energy.
The dome of temple is reflector of sound. The saying of prayers & chanting of mantras are perhaps more effective in a dome than in other structure. The ancient silpacharyas would not have built the temples in that form without mystic significance.
The physical world comprises of five essential elements, i.e. earth, water, fire, air, space. The human body is also made of these five elements and again it is the very same elements that we see in the construction of a house or work place. The Vastu expanse of these five elements outside, & those at the micro level within, are beyond the purview of man’s manipulative abilities. The interplay of various forces of Nature involving the five elements sustains life & maintains a near equilibrium on this planet. Any imbalance in the interlace of these forces could result in chaos or cataclysm.
Man can better his conditions to a great extent by properly planning, designing & constructing his house & work-place.
The Vastu influence of building on human beings is like the cosmic influence if the sun on our eco system.

The principles of Vastu were obviously formulated keeping in view, the consim influence of the Sun, its light and heat , the direction of wind, the earth’s magnetic field & the influence of cosmos on our planet earth. In Vastu east & west directions are given great importance. The East as we all know, is the gateway to the Sun’s rays. The north identified with the help of pole star is the roof of the world. The tilting of the earth by about 23 degrees at the meridian on its either side, each for six months called Ayanams & the Precession of the Equinoxes also seem to have been reckoned with while formulating the Vastu sutras.

Many are now accepting Vastu as a science, based on practical experience & statistics gathered over a period of several hundred years. & it has come to stay.
Solar energy, coupled with electro-magnetic energy field, generated in the plot or the structure is influencing the well beings of human beings, connected with that plot or living structure.
